The Desert Battle Dress Uniform (DBDU) camouflage, a combat attire tailored for arid environments, served as the standard battle dress for the United States Armed Forces from the early 1980s to the early to mid-1990s (1976–1995), notably during the Persian Gulf War. Officially designated as the Desert Camouflage Pattern and informally dubbed "coffee stain camouflage," this uniform was developed to supplant the six-color desert camouflage "chocolate-chip camouflage" attire, deemed inadequate for most desert combat theaters. Unlike its predecessor, the original six-color DBDU, tailored for rockier and elevated desert battlefields, the Desert Camouflage Uniform (DCU) was primarily designed for lower, more open, and less rocky desert terrain, prevalent during the Persian Gulf War.

Although the U.S. military has phased out the pattern, it remains widely adopted by militaries worldwide as of the early 2010s.
